Starlight, the newly opened cinema in Abu Dhabi, merges Art Deco design with contemporary precision under the guidance of Fusion Architects for Cinemacity. The project emphasizes individuality over standardization, ensuring every auditorium stands apart. Custom seating arrangements, handcrafted decorative panels, and integrated metal-and-glass elements combine to create spaces that prioritize both comfort and visual distinction.
This approach rejects uniformity in favor of thoughtful variation. Each screening room features unique seating layouts and tailored dimensions, reinforcing the idea that cinema extends beyond film to include the rituals of arrival, social connection, and shared moments. The concept extends to 1927, an exclusive members’ lounge where film screenings, live music performances, and social interactions blend seamlessly.
Material selection reinforces the design vision. Polished marble floors, luxurious upholstery, and refined metalwork evoke Art Deco sophistication while maintaining a modern aesthetic. Textural contrasts add warmth, while reflective surfaces introduce subtle elegance. On the technical front, five theaters feature Dolby Atmos sound systems, premium seating options, and adjustable lighting to enhance immersion without compromising guest comfort.

Unlike Abu Dhabi’s usual large-scale developments, Starlight prioritizes meticulous detail over sheer scale. It functions as both a cinema and a cultural destination, where architecture sets the tone and craftsmanship defines the visitor experience. The outcome transcends a mere film venue—it establishes itself as a gathering place where design and atmosphere take center stage.
In a city known for building on a grand scale, Starlight offers a different kind of ambition: one rooted in precision, individuality and intent. It is a cinema, certainly, but more importantly, it is a considered destination, one where architecture sets the atmosphere, craftsmanship shapes the experience and cinema becomes the reason to gather.
